Animal Ally Series: Alpha Maiseli
By Alpha Maiseli
This year, we embarked on an incredible journey with International Veterinary Outreach (IVO) that has touched the lives of countless animals, students, and communities in Tanzania. Together, we have not only advanced public health and animal welfare but also created a lasting impact on the future of veterinary medicine in our country.
When the IVO team arrived in Tanzania, their goal was clear: to uplift veterinary services while fostering a culture of compassion and care. Over the course of their visit, they worked hand in hand with vet students from Sokoine University of Agriculture and paravet students from Visele Training Centre. Through their “train the trainer” model, each previous student was paired with a new one, ensuring that the knowledge gained in previous sessions was passed on, alongside new skills. This ripple effect not only improved the standard of veterinary care but also empowered our students to become future leaders in the field. This partnership has strengthened our resolve to push the boundaries of veterinary medicine in Tanzania, with a renewed focus on humane practices and public health.
But it wasn’t just about learning. Together, we laughed, played, and formed bonds that will last a lifetime. The joy of seeing our students grow, the laughter shared over meals, and the heartfelt connections made with the IVO team have left an indelible mark on us all. As we look forward, we know that the seeds planted during this incredible journey will continue to grow. Together, we are shaping a future where animals are cared for with compassion, communities thrive in health, and students are empowered to create lasting change.
To our friends at International Veterinary Outreach, thank you for your dedication, your friendship, and for reminding us that when we come together, we can achieve extraordinary things.
